Breast Implant Removal
Why Remove Breast Implants?
Breast implants may be removed for a number of reasons — both medical and personal. Common indications include:
Capsular contracture (hardening or distortion)
Rupture or implant failure
Pain or discomfort
Cosmetic changes or lifestyle shift
Concerns about breast implant illness (BII)
Desire to return to a natural chest (explanting)
Some patients may also undergo implant removal following breast reconstruction for cancer, particularly when the implant no longer suits their body or lifestyle.
Depending on your goals, you may choose to:
Remove implants without replacement
Replace with new implants
Consider a breast lift (mastopexy) or fat grafting
Opt for going flat or a minimalist closure approach
My Approach
I take a sensitive, non-judgmental approach to breast implant removal. This is a highly personal decision — and I’m here to guide you through your options with honesty and clarity.
I offer:
Explant surgery with or without total capsulectomy
Careful review of your imaging and implant history
Options for aesthetic closure, mastopexy, or reconstruction
Safe surgery in accredited hospitals with close postoperative follow-up
If you're concerned about symptoms possibly related to your implants (such as BII), we can discuss the current evidence, your experiences, and the potential benefits of explant surgery.
What to Expect
Initial consultation to discuss reasons for removal and aesthetic goals
Clinical examination and review of prior surgery
Imaging to assess implant and capsule integrity (MRI or ultrasound as needed)
Surgery to suit your needs — from simple explant to total capsulectomy with lift
Postoperative care and follow-up, with scar management and symmetry review
